Summer Vacation - 2021 - Galeton and Pine Creek Gorge. Ghosts of the NYC and B&O

From Coudersport we again headed east on US 6 to Galeton PA, central location of the northern Pennsylvania lumber industry and the Buffalo & Susquehanna Ry. Because of time constraints we regretfully had to pass up the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum. Although Galeton was a quaint little town I couldn’t find any traces of the former railroad or mill.

4. By 1953 B&O had abandoned former B&S line southwest to Wharton and the Susquehanna valley at Sinnemahoning. Former B&S 2-8-0s stayed on the line, and I doubt a B&O diesel every ran there. The orphaned Galeton cluster became the Wellsville, Addison & Galeton short line railroad which ran from 1956 until 1979. B&O #35 1953 Wharton Addison Northern. Click here for a larger image.

14. Tuesday. 06-22-2021, we stayed the night in beautiful Wellsboro. We ate at this diner. I had liver and onions. The Wellsboro & Corning (a G&W company) has a track into town. It appears to be relegated to long-term storage of multi-level auto haulers. It operates the remaining ex-CR, P-C, nee-NYC. But we came to see the Pine Creek Gorge. Wellsboro Diner.
