As you can see loadings slumped during the winter due to weather and holidays. It also dipped in July because of the annual miner’s vacation around the 4th. It typically peaked in October because of the winter buildup in power plant coal stockpiles. Loadings are so low now that it is not noticeable.

A NS friend informed me yesterday that the last train had been loaded at the Blacksville 2 mine on the old Monongahela Ry. There’s nothing left active south of Waynesburg PA, but the big Bailey Mine still cranks out several trains a day for NS and CSX (some of which come through here).

Even though it is Labor Day a C660 mine run with just came out of Shelby and is going over Coal Run taking Duke Energy empties to the Scotts Branch Mine. I didn’t see anything Saturday during the day. Yesterday there was a combined train of Duke empties and ethanol empties that went west. Something ran late last night west. That was probably a big McClure export train as Shelby was almost full yesterday.
